Wireframe overlaid on top the finished render. The background rocks were modeled in Maya with details added in Xgen.
Textures were painted in Substance Painter.
The fine details were sculpted in Zbrush. Displacement and normal maps were then exported and applied to the model to get the level of detail needed.

A coelacanth is a type of fish long thought extinct but rediscovered in 1938.
I've always been fascinated by these creatures so I decided to animate one. It was a lot of fun and I learned a great deal in the process.
The animation was done in Maya and rendered using Arnold. After Effects was used for the final composite.
